I am a Registered Practitioner of Chinese Medicine working within the Frome and N.E. Somerset area. I qualified with a double degree level (BHSc) in both Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine from the Southern School of Natural Therapies in Melbourne, Australia, which has one of the highest standards for Chinese Medicine qualifications and practice in the West. Following practice in Australia as a member of the Chinese Medicine Registration Board (CMRB) of Victoria, I relocated back to the UK in 2010. I am currently the President of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM), which regulates Chinese Medicine Herbalists in the UK. Its members adhere to a strict code of practice and ethics that helps ensure the highest standards of care and professionalism within the industry.
As part of my extensive training I have studied many areas of western medicine including clinical anatomy & physiology, clinical diagnosis, pharmacology, counselling & psychology. I have served clinical internships with Tran Nga of Eastern Medicine, and Steven Clavey, a world renowned specialist in the field of fertility and gynaecology in Chinese Medicine. I have also worked in Community Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation and in support organisations for patients living with HIV.
I lecture widely on the treatment of digestive complaints with Chinese Medicine and also sit on the Board of the European Herbal and Traditional Practitioners Association (EHTPA) and am an Honorary Advisor to the King’s Centre for Integrative Chinese Medicine her in the UK.
Further training has included :
- Advanced Master Tung Acupuncture under Susan Johnson
- Distal Needle Acupuncture (DNA) under Robert Doane
- Medical Pulse Diagnosis (MPD) under Robert Doane
I am passionate about Traditional Chinese Medicine and its incredible ability to treat the whole person rather than simply looking at symptoms or narrow definitions of western conditions. I continue to undertake regular professional development to improve my knowledge and skill base and regularly practice Qi Gong and Tai Chi for my own personal development and health.
As a Scientist having previously graduated with an honours degree in Environmental Science I am forever intrigued by the insightful concepts of Chinese Medicine which are only now finding parallels in modern quantum physics and other ‘new’ scientific concepts.
